Simple tariffs based on price multipliers for ATM VBR services

چکیده
We present an approach for constructing simple time-based tari s for Variable Bit Rate (VBR) connections from Constant Bit Rate (CBR) prices, using price multipliers that depend on the traÆc parameters of the VBR connection and re ect the resource usage of VBR connections relative to CBR connections. Our approach employs an e ective bandwidth bound as a proxy for the maximum amount of traÆc that conforms to the connection's traÆc contract, and thus for the maximum resource usage. We compare the price multipliers computed using our approach with the multipliers published by an actual ATM service provider, and with those computed using a proxy for resource usage that is based on ATM Forum's Generic CAC algorithm. Although our approach is presented in the context of ATM VBR services, it can be applied for creating tari s for Service Level Agreements (SLAs) where the maximum amount of conforming traÆc is given by leaky (or token) bucket constraints.

Integrating Differentiated Services with ATM
IP in the edge and ATM in the core are commonplace in today’s internetworks. The IETF has proposed a new Quality of Service (QoS) mechanism namely Differentiated Services (DiffServ) for IP networks. On the other hand, QoS is an inherent feature in ATM. It is imperative that IP and ATM QoS interoperate efficiently to provide an end-to-end service guarantee. DiffServ provides a class of service n...
متن کاملCredit-based dynamic reservation integrated services multiple access (DRISMA) for wireless ATM networks
In this paper, we extend our previous dynamic reservation integrated services multiple access (DRISMA) protocol for the integration of constant bit rate (CBR), variable bit rate (VBR) and unspecified bit rate (UBR) traffic over wireless ATM networks. DRISMA provides CBR services by pre-assigning slots in a frame and VBR services by reserving slots on a bandwidth-on-demand basis. By using a requ...
متن کاملAnalysis of VBR Traffic on ATM Network using Simulation Method
ATM or Asynchronous Transfer Mode is a network transfer technique that supports a large variety of applications having diverse performance requirements and service. Traffic bandwidths and traffic types are supported by it from constant, fixed rate traffic to the traffic that is highly bursty. The delay bandwidth and loss requirements of the present day real time multimedia traffics greatly diff...
متن کاملQoS in ATM : Theory and Practice
We consider joint traac management of Variable and Available Bit Rate (VBR,ABR) services for ATM networks. For VBR service we consider loss sensitive call admission for virtual trunks of such traac. For ABR traac we propose a ow control mechanism based on measurement of the current queue length and band-width availability, as well as tracking the current activity level of sources, to adjust an ...
متن کاملPricing and Financial Issues in Marketing Modeling Consumer Choice among Three-part Tariffs
In recent years, firms in a number of industries have introduced wide menus of pricing plans that grant access to a virtually identical product under different pricing schemes. These menus of tariffs allow consumers to self-select into the tariff that best fits their demand. They include pure pay-per-use tariffs, tariffs where the consumer pays an access price, and a marginal price only for usa...
